Suggest Treatment For Swelling In The Hands When Diagnosed With Osteoarthritis

My mother-in-law is 90 years old and has been diagnosed with Osteoarthritis. She is having swelling in one of her hands, but not both. Is this common or possibly a sign of something else going on? (I am a nurse but haven t practiced at the bedside in a long time). Thank you, Karen Kennedy

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
No this is not common thing.
Unilateral hand swelling in osteoarthritis patient should be looked for minor fracture.
So immediately consult orthopedic doctor and get done clinical examination and x ray of hand to rule out fracture and other internal some tissue injury (ligaments and muscle).
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your grand mother. Thanks.
I find this answer helpful
