Suggest Treatment For Swelling On Skin Post Injury

I got poked by a nail at work the other day . It didn t go deep into my skin but it broke skin . I immediately squeezed the little bit of blood that came out & washed with warm water & soap . When I came home I cleaned it with alcohol . It s still a little swollen but doesn t hurt . I do not remember the last time I had a tetanus shot so should I go & get it checked out by a doctor ?

Hi,

No, need to take an antibiotic as it is superficial cut but you should take tetanus injection preferably within 24 hrs. If you have too much pain, an analgesic can be taken. You can apply soframycin ointment to avoid any secondary infection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Rajshree Agrawal, General & Family Physician
