Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son s foot is swollen so he put ice on it, but that didn t help. The coldness from the ice did not go away. His wife took him to urgent care to be checked and xrays revealed no broken bones. Did have a bone spur on little toe, but that is not where it hurt. They gave him a prescription for prednisone and an anti inflammatory medicine. He just took that. They also told him to apply heat to his foot. I m concerned because his blood pressure was 140 over 90, which he said was because he is in so much pain. I want him to go to the ER, but he doesn t think it s necessary yet. He is 34 years old
Well, there are several possible causes. This may be a beginning of leg cellulitis which is inflammation of subcutaneous tissues and may develop into diabetic foot or even diabetic gangrene so any swelling, redness or pain in legs in someone who has diabetes should be evaluated by medical professionals since antibiotics may have to be started as soon as possible to prevent spreading of infection.
He should do at least basic blood tests and blood sugar to see if there is a significant infection or not.

Suggest Treatment For Swelling On The Foot
Hi, Well, there are several possible causes. Other causes include deep vein thrombosis or lymphedema and these should be checked with an ultrasound exam. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
