Suggest Treatment For Swimmer S Ear

I am 57 years old with a diagnosis of swimmer s ear. I began 250mg of Azithromycin, twice daily beginning 6-16-16,as well as ciprodex optic suspension twice daily. I have seen/felt NO IMPROVEMENT. What other course of treatment would be more effective? I have not experienced this type of ear problem since I was 7 yrs old. Would a steroid injection provide immediate relief as it does with allergic rhinitis? Please help. Thank you!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I think you may need to take anti-inflammatory drugs such as Advil or naproxen for pain.

Go to ENT doctor to get evaluated because you may need to take another antibiotic since azithromycin didn't work.

Corticosteroids also should be used it doesn't get better.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
