Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My ankles began swelling yesterday and I m trying to figure out what the cause can be. I began a new blood pressure several days ago (amlodipine 2.5) and am wondering if that can be causing it. I called my doctor and he said to limit my salt and keep my lets elevated. Today I stopped taking the amlodipine and have elevated my legs as much as possible plus very limited salt and they re still swollen. What do you suggest? I also take Losartan/HCTZ 100/12.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have swollen and painful ankle . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like peripheral neuropathy , hypertension , vitamin B12 deficiency , kidney disease or venous insufficiency . Liver problem can also cause such symptoms .There can be other problems also like compressed nerve or injury . I would suggest you to consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination . Doctor may order CT scan or x-ray along with blood test and nerve conduction test . Doctor may also refer you to cardiologist for cardiac problem or nephrologist for kidney problem .For now keep your legs in hot water tub with Epsom salt for 15 minutes daily and keep your legs elevated while lying down .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
