Suggest Treatment For Swollen And Painful Finger

The middle knuckle on my index finger on my right (dominate) hand is swollen and painful with even slight movement for a week or 10 days. It s hurting even though I ve been taking 400 mg of Etodolac 2x day for knee and hip pain. Could my knuckle be carpal tunnel?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
hello
there has to be cause for isolated knuckle swelling other than carpal tunnel ,which has different symptoms like loss of sensations, pain on movement near wrist in the palm etc.I would suggest an x ray and consultation/examination by orthopedic doctor to evalauate whether there is effusion into the joint/rule out infection/abscess. i will advise for adding an antibiotic too.if its confirmed by doctor that its not infection, then fomentation in warm water should be done.
