Suggest Treatment For Swollen And Painful Thumb

The skin on my thumb is hard and cracked and very painful. My doctor prescribed Prevex cream, three times a day and wear a rubber finger cot. This has been going on for months, three months since I ve started treatment and when I remove the cot, my thumb may be soft for a few minutes, but it immediately dries and becomes hard and painful. I know it s not working. Have you got any suggestions.
