My son has large tonsils and suspected enlarged adenoids. He will be undergoing a sleep study next month. He has several symptoms of enlarged adenoids- mouth breathing, some snoring, some restlessness at night, cracked lips. I ve also noticed some bloody mucus in his nose- nothing severe, but he often has dried blood around his nostrils. Is this related to enlarged adenoids as well? He s five.
Hi...welcome to healthcare magic....your child is suffering from tonsillitis and adenoid hypertrophy....according to his symptoms you should ideally undergo adeno tonsillectomy...bloody mucous in nose might be due to inflamed adenoids called adenoiditis..if u don't want immediate surgery you can start with xylometazoline nose drops, amoxycillin antibiotics and levocetrizine syrup..this will help in decongestion...u can later after one week you can start with fluticasone steroidal spray which will help to regress the size of adenoids...however you should start with immediate t/t as it can further lead to ear symptoms...avoid forceful nose blowing and nose picking..
