Suggest Treatment For Swollen Ankles And Ulcer On Foot

83 year old mother has developed swollen ankles she currently has a ulcer on her foot which has become infected she cannot get antibiotics for this until tommorrow she has been having treatment for the ulcer since early oct 2010 which seems a very long time she is on quite a strong painkiller for this ?

Hi thanks for asking question.
You are giving history of ulcer since long duration.
In such advancing age cause for non healing ulcer mostly will be diabetes.Rule out it by doing sugar estimation.
Daily dressing should be done over ulcer by surgeon with control of diabetes if present.
It will require long time dressing for atleast month for start healing ulcer.
Even with regular dressing if ulcer not heal then split thickness graft has to be put over it.Oral antibiotic needed if ulcer infection seems to be severe.
