My mom is insured. she is about 100 pounds, 5 6" 84 years old and otherwise healthy had swollen legs, feet and ankles in October. It is not a vascular problem. The hematologist ruled out diseased organs, cancers and blood diseases noting malabsorption, malnutrition, less than half the protein necessary in her blood-- so we loaded up on protein enriched foods with no change. The GI administered antibiotics, antacids, and protein enriched drinks used intravenously with no change. The GI tests noted a severely swollen duodenum but we have no cause no diagnosis despite biopsies and several scopes--we have no treatment plan and the swelling worsens each day. Can you help tell us what medical specialty she needs, what tests should have been completed, what is the best way to a diagnosis so that we can have a treatment plan?
