Suggest Treatment For Swollen Eyes In A Month-old Infant

My daughter will be 1 month old tomorrow. Two days ago I noticed what looked like the start of cradle cap forming around her eyebrows. Yesterday it looked worse so I dabbed a little baby oil on the spots, making sure to keep away from her eyes. Late last night it seemed to be getting better and flaking off. However this morning one of her eyes was a swollen but she did manage to open it a little. Now that I gave it some time both eyes are now swollen. should I take her to the e.r. or does this happen often? She hasn t had a fever.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Yes, you should consider taking her to the ER for assessment.

The swelling of the eyes may just be due to inflammatory reaction to the rash but infection of the eyes would need to be ruled out by examination.

If an infection of the eyes is present , topical or oral antibiotics would be needed.
They would also provide treatment for the cradle cap.

She should respond well to treatment and would likely be fine.

I hope this helps
