Suggest Treatment For Swollen Lymph Node In The Neck

I have quit smoking and experiencing excessive lymph node clogging on the left side of my neck. I am 26 years old and have been off of cigars for about 4 months. Is this a normal experience? I don t have a fever and I feel perfectly healthy in light of the incessant throat clearing. Which is very irritating.

Hello,

I can understand your concern. As you were smoking for a long time, cilia which are hair-like projections in the windpipe that move and throw debris and small harmful particulate matter out of the system, had degenerated due to harmful chemicals present in the smoke.

Now, as you have quit smoking, the cilia are regenerating which is causing irritation in the throat and constant coughing. This coughing is a sign of healing and it is good. It will automatically disappear in 6-8 weeks.

However, if you are having lymph node swelling, then there might be presence of infection in the throat or nearby area. For that reason, I would advise you to visit an ENT specialist for clinical examination of the lymph node and further investigations if needed. If infection is present, you will have to do an antibiotic course.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. Take care.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
