Suggest Treatment For Swollen Scrotum After Inguinal Hernia Operation
I m a 74 year old male and I recently went through a inguinal hernia repair operation. Following surgery, my scrotum blew up to the size of a basketball, and the treatment the surgeon prescribed was to place a rolled up towel under my scrotum along with some ice. Needless to say, the initial response was that it gave some relief and felt good; but I m still having a problem with my enlarged scrotum. Are there any other suggestions for quick relief and comfort?
Noted the history about swelling of scrotum after hernia surgery, advised by your Doctor about pulling a rolled up towel and icing which helped temporarily. Since hernia surgery involves the inguinal area through which the veins and lymphatics to up, it is possible for temporary blockage due to surgical trauma and thus get enlarged. The tissues in scrotal area have more loose areolar tissues hence get a chance to have large swelling. The best ways I can think about are as follows: Anti-inflammatory medications. Bed rest in lying down position for edema to reduce. Rarely multiple incisions to drain the fluid can help or may be putting in multiple drainage tubes to reduce the edema.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
