Suggest Treatment For Swollen Toes And Numbness After Injury
I broke a first metatarsal 7 weeks ago. I have been using a cam walker which I now take off when I m resting in bed. Although I no longer have any sharp pain at the break site, my toes are swollen, numb(ish) and feel as though they are vibrating. When my feet are lowered they change to a dark color and feel hot to the touch. Is this normal for a healing foot? Is there anything I can do to reduce the symptoms? Thanks very much!
If you are not having much pain, then it may be simple healing process. The presence of feeling of hot to touch and darkness of foot may be just signs of local inflammation at the site of injury. Use of simple analgesics or anti-inflammatory OTC drugs like Ibuprofen may be beneficial for relief in the symptoms of pain, redness & warmth of the site of injury.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Satnarain Bansal, General & Family Physician
