Suggest Treatment For Swollen Wound In Armpit After Injury
Hi, my brother cut himself near the armpit area on the arm with a razor blade. He then proceeded to take a shower. The cut became swollen and has formed a lump where the cut was. The lump started small, but it has grown quite big now (almost one month later). My brother didn t really do anything about it and just showed me the lump. I told him to visit a doctor tomorrow after work. The lump is slightly red. He says it s just that he took a shower and the water went into the cut, but it s nothing serious. Could this be serious? I told him to apply soframycin on it in case it s a bacterial infection.
The symptoms seem to be related to an infection of the cut. I suggest to clean the area with hydrogen peroxide and cover it with the antibiotic cream. I also suggest using an anti inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen in case of pain. If the symptoms continue, I suggest to see a dermatologist for further evaluation and treatment.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
