Suggest Treatment For Symptoms Of Tourette S Syndrome

Hi , kind of a long one here .. I am in newbrunswick and have been waiting on a list for a family doctor since February , and have not seen one in well over a year. I have Tourette s syndrome, mostly physical twists, cracks, slight jolting movements.. And a few more verbal, loud hiccup like sounds and also strong hard, painful Nassle gasps (all as ticks) and I few more odd ones.. Anyways , I was regularly on antipsychotics for this for years .. And now that I have moved I have no idea what to do.. Like I said I have been waiting .. I have went to walk-in Clinics .. They can not help, I ve called the hospital , Called neurologist offices and still nothing .. I m down to being able to work only 20 hours a week .. And that is pushing it .. I m constantly in crippling pain.. Fallowed by the heart racing anxiety that comes with knowing everyone around me is seeing and hearing me do these involuntary things ... So.. Point of this .. Is .. What is my next step here ? Because I m stuck, And upset , And so tired ..

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since you have a history of Tourette's syndrome & now you are having involuntary symptoms you are suggested to visit ER, get physically examined & get done CT and MRI.

Your treating doctor will treat you with medications (haloperidol, clonidine, fluoxetine) & physical therapy for cognitive & behavioral therapy.

You may need the help of a Psychiatrist & a Counselor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
