Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was just at my physical therapist s yesterday. She compared our hands and said something about the fact that because my palm was perfectly flat it indicated some kind of arthritis...other than just ordinary arthritis. she showed me her palm and the pad at the base of her thumb is nicely rounded. The pad of my hand under my thumb hurts almost all the time and especially if I write or do any type of needle work for 15 mins. I was told I have just regular arthritis, but she seemed to think it was something else. I forgot what she called it, but she seemed to think it was serious enough to look into seeing a specialist. What kind of arthritis could this be?

Suggest Treatment For Symptoms Of Arthritis
Hello, Pain in the thumb or around the thumb pad is commonly due to overuse of thumb. You may develop tendonitis due to the inflammation of the tendons around the thumb(De Quervain s tenosynovitis). Rheumatoid arthritis is another cause that causes pain, inflammation, redness & swelling of the joints. Get physically examined. Get X-RAY, anti- CCP, ESR, CRP & RA factor tests done. Do regular stretch & joint exercises. You can take NSAIDS for pain relied on & apply pain relieving ointments & sprays. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care Regards, Dr Nupur K, General & Family Physician
