General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello.

Your father's symptoms to me donot seem like delirium tremens. Since he is a chronic alcoholic, some degree of loss of appetite is expected.

However, very severe loss of appetite definitely needs to be investigated as chronic alcoholism causes a lot of unwanted changes in different organs of the body especially liver.

In my opinion, he needs to be seen and examined by a physician and appropriate investigations like liver function tests, ECG, alpha fetoprotein, etc. need to be done as I feel he is slowly going into liver failure. Kindly see a physician as soon as possible. He may also need endoscopy to look for any bleeding varices.

The pain he is feeling in the left side of his ?chest and his left hand may be an indicater of a heart problem. Chronic alcohol intake does a lot of damage to the heart and its vessels. He needs to be evaluated for the same as soon as possible.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Dr Geeta
