My 15-year old grandson has a TSH that is at the low end of normal, but elevated T3 and T4 levels. Are all three of these levels used in diagnosing hyperthyroidism? What I ve read seems to indicate that the TSH is the primary diagnostic tool. Yet he has been exhibiting symptoms of hyperthyroidism.
Welcome to HCM. I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.
If TSH is not suppressed, it could be due to another condition called thyroiditis. Here also the symptoms will be similar to hyperthyroidism.
Please upload the thyroid function reports.
Additional investigations like anti thyroid antibodies, ultrasound neck and thyroid uptake scan will help to establish the diagnosis. Kindly consult an endocrinologist / physician who can help you with this.
Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
