Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 58 year old male and I have symptoms of osteoarthritis in my hands and shoulders. These began about 5 years ago and have worsened slightly over time. I continue to weight train as I have for 40 years, but the shoulder pain in particular is beginning to affect my training. Is there an effective treatment that will reduce the joint damage without significant side effects?
Firstly, have you been diagnosed with having osteoarthritis and taking any medicines for the same?
If not then I would advise you visit a rheumatologist for the same as there are different joints involved in different autoimmune diseases so for proper diagnosis your doctor needs to take your medical history as well as do physical examination.
After that, he will suggest some blood tests as well as medical imaging studies of the involved joints for further evaluation.
Seeing the results of the tests he will be able to guide you with appropriate medical advice which will help to relieve symptoms.
Along with medicines regular exercise or appointment with a physiotherapist as per your doctor’s advice will help as well.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Manisha Auradkar, General & Family Physician
