Suggest Treatment For Symptoms Of Shingles

Thanks so much. I am a 74 year old woman in great health. 3 days ago I was diagnosed with shingles an given an antiviral Valacyclovir This is my 3rd day of taking it 3 times a day. The side effecs are getting worse each time I take it. The shakiness, lightheadedness and sleepiness, are concerning to me. My question is should I stop taking it. The PA that gave me the perscription was uncertain if it woul hep since she said you are supposed to take the anti viral within 72 hours of symptoms and I had mine for a week. This is why I m asking. If it is questionable that the antiviral will help I think I might just ride this out. Your thoughts

Hello,

After reading your query it appears that you have developed herpes zoster or also commonly known as shingles.

Your doctor has given you very good treatment and can be followed for the proper time so that the pain part and post sequel can be reduced at best. Azithromycin, valacyclovir, combiflam, andocevin cream are one of the best drugs to take care of shingles.

For the meantime, you can apply a cream containing gentamycin and give any pain killer tablet for immediate relief.
