Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband has been experiencing some dizzy spells these last few days. Last night, while sleeping, he lifted his head to turn over in bed and got a big time rush of dizziness. So he thought he would sit up, but while sitting up he ended up falling out of bed and he is thinking he blacked out. He got up and it went away. He went to the Dr. Today and she feels he has vertigo. Is what he experienced a sign of vertigo?
Yes it is vertigo. There are many causes of vertigo such as benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, stroke, heart block, internal ear problem, arrhythmia, cervical spondylitis and rarely tumor. Causes needs to identified. Advice 1. Take bed rest for few days 2. Cinnarizine (tablet Vertigon) 25 mg every 8 hours until subsidence of symptoms 3. Betahistine (tablet Vertin) 8 mg every 8 hours orally until subsidence of symptoms 4. Investigation – MRI of brain, ECG 5. Cosult a neuro-physician for further follow up Thanks
