Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a tender bump in my mouth. The right side of my bottom lip (on the inside) it came up a few hours ago and it's bothering me. It doesn't hurt its just that I don't usually have problems in my mouth so I noticed quickly. I've googled quite a lot but everyone else had theirs for a years. I have been sneezing a lot lately (yesterday 5 or 6 in a row). I live in the southern Untied States so it's drawing to an end for summer. My lips are chapped also, if that has anything to do with it.
As per your complain it seems to be a MUCOCELE which is characterised by formation of a small bump and it is formed due to trauma to the inner aspect of lip by conditions like lip biting, accidental injury to minor salivary gland etc leading to spillage of mucus into the adjacent soft tissues and formation of a bump.. It can also occur due to clogging of duct of salivary gland or the duct itself leading to accumulation of saliva into the glands and forming a bump.. You need not to worry worry as it is a harmless condition and mostly it resolves itself.. You can do concentrated salt water rinses as it helps in resolution of the bump..
In case if the bump is persisting and does not resolve itself surgical removal has to be done.. Small mucoceles can however be removed by Laser ablation..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
