Suggest Treatment For Tenderness And Swelling In Knee After Injury
Hello, I recently fell and bumped my knee on the corner of a rigid table, it s been 3 hours and it has now swollen noticeably. It is tender to the touch but not painful, it does not impede my walking in any way, I m just wondering what the swelling is made up of or why it is there in the first place.
Hello and welcome to HCM. As a specialist, i must advise you, not to walk around, but see an orthopedic specialist urgently. Swelling after an injury over the knee is, usually due to a fluid collection in and around the joint, called an effusion. It's easily diagnosed after a X-ray of the joint, or even a MRI scan. Once diagnosed, your doctor will give you analgesic injection and tablets. Also. a plaster to stabilize or immobilize the joint for about 6 weeks is given. You may contact me, with a direct question. Dr.Matthew J. Mangat.
