Suggest Treatment For Tenderness And Swelling On The Leg

My 58 year old male friend has one leg that is swollen, veins bulging, purplish spots and major tenderness. Also he gets a horrible pain up his leg from time to time. Excruciating pain. He wears a support sock most days. He has diabetes that is under control and has been told that there is nothing that can be done about his leg. He HAS been checked for a blood clot and does not have one. There has GOT to be something else that can be done to treat/cure his leg. Please please please help!

Hello,

1.As you said your friend is diabetic and your question its more likely seems to be a case of cellulitis in which there is inflammation of the subcutaneous tissue inside the body. That's why its red, swollen and tender to touch.
2. Take antibiotics e.g cephalosporins group like Cefixime twice a day for 7 days.
3. Take Paracetamol also if fever persists.
4. Elevate the leg, don't put pressure on the leg for a longer period.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
