Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My rheumatologist has been weaning me off of Neurontin to start me on a new medication. Noticed this a.m. That there is quite a bit if tenderness in my lower front gum area, like I clenched my teeth in my sleep. Still very sore tonight as well, especially when I run my tongue over my teeth. Should I be concerned?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
As per your complain tenderness in gums when being on Neurontin withdrawal can be due to severe clenching of teeth that can occur due to anxiety and restlessness as a part of withdrawal symptoms..
Secondly tenderness of gums can also be due to infection and inflammation in gums and can be due to excessive plaque and tartar deposits..
Consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation can help in ruling out the cause.. In case if it is due to teeth clenching you can be advised to put mouthguards.. Meditation and breathing exercises can also help in reducing stress.. In case of infection Scaling followed by gum paint application can help..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards.. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
