Spitting a lot indicates the possibility of inability to swallow or may be painful swallowing that he is not telling you. There may be tonsillitis or epiglottitis. Hence, consult an ENT Surgeon for proper clinical evaluation, examination. Do relevant tests of blood. Do an ENT endoscopy. Once a proper diagnosis is done then it will be easy to have a specific treatment. If there is any problem with swallowing then it is better to get him admitted to the hospital for intravenous fluids and antibiotics. Anti-inflammatory medicines with painkiller properties. Any further treatment as per symptoms, signs and investigations.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
