Suggest Treatment For Throat Dryness When Diagnosed With Lupus And Scleroderma

Why, mostly at night, after I sneeze my throat gets dry and I start coughing? I drink water but it doesn t always help. Is it allergies? I do smoke. Is it that? Also, a while ago I was told I had sjogrens syndrome. But none of the doctors I see have told me anything about it since. I have Lupus see and scleroderma so I take a number of medications. So I don t know if some or all of this contributes to that little discomfort. Please let me know so I can make it stop. Thank you.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Scleroderma can cause decreased sweat and saliva which can cause dryness of throat. You can take small sips of clear fluid for symptomatic relief. cold saline gargles can also be useful.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
