Hi, welcome to our site. I am Dr Saumya Mittal, MD.
Read your query. That is a very significant question and i appreciate your problem. I will try my best to answer your query
The thing is that I feel you dont have throat complaint. What you have in fact seems more like a stomach problem. Here is how-
I feel you have a form of
gastritis or acidity in simple terms. the acid that is produced in the stomach is stopped from coming out side by a small valve like feature that is actually incomplete (in the sense that it is not an actual valve, just a muscle fold). Therefore it may be possible for acid to come out of stomach into the food pipe- something called as GERD.
The acid basically comes up in your throat and collects there in small quantites causing burning of the area affected. The affect is the pain and heaviness and difficulty in swallowing.
The acidity increases typically in the early hours of every morning, and therefore when you wake, this excess acid causes
nausea and
retching and sometimes even vomitting.
You could always have an
endoscopy done to see what it is.
The solution would be to avoid things like coffee, and tea, especially before bed time. avoid spicy and oily foods and give a gap of 2-3 hours between dinner and sleep.
Raising the head end of your bed may also help keep the acid away from the throat.
You may also try medicines like
proton pump inhibitors. Now these medicines like
esomeprazole are taken once daily- in your case I would suggest taking them just 1/2 hour before dinner. They are quite safe and devoid of major side effects. So try a course of them. If it helps, your treatment is the same, and your diagnosis is confirmed as well.
I hope this helps you. Inform the reports mentioned above/if any other so I can be of help further.
