Suggest Treatment For Throbbing Sensation And Discomfort In The Pelvic Area

Hi there, I m getting a kind of throbbing and discomfort in my pelvis. Recently I had a red, itchy rash-like infection on the outside area of my vagina. I went to a few doctors, the first two thought it was yeast, but the medication they prescribed as well as over the counter ones did nothing and I didn t feel like I had any symptoms inside. The third, a dermatologist, said it was folliculitis combined with a staph infection because it was easily spread to other areas like my belly button and sides of fingers). 2 week course of antibiotics (minocycline) cleared it up, nearly immediately cleared by the end of the first day. Very happy! Then I got my period and had terrible cramps, before, during and after, and pain in my groin which continues now 2 weeks later. Now it s more like a throbbing and feels like the area where I imagine ovaries are, on both sides. Could the infection still be there on an internal area? I also found out I have HPV type 16 last year, had a punch biopsy which resulted in a nothing found, area tested was too small to be conclusive though and am kind of worried as I m thinking about having children. What would you recommend I do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since you have a history of HPV infection. You are suggested to get treated for it. HPV left neglected may become chronic & lead to precancerous lesions that may affect the cervix.

Chronic HPV infection may cause throbbing sensation and discomfort in the pelvic area. You can apply Imiquidon cream in the affected area.

Your treatment will depend upon the pathology detected.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
