Hello,
Thank you for asking at HCM.
I carefully read your question and understand your concern.
If you have fallen on your wrist with an open hand than the bone that is more in danger to be broken is called
scaphoid bone which close to the base of the thumb. Xrays are done when we suspect that trauma might have fractured this bone but sometimes Xray does not diagnose
fractures the first few days. In these cases, if Xray is normal but still there is a high suspicion of scaphoid
bone fracture than an Xray should be repeated in 2 weeks. it is obvious you are doing the correct things. I would recommend you to:
1. Take
paracetamol and
ibuprofen full dose for pain if you are not allergic to them.
2. elevate the arm and the hand as much as you can to help with edema and pain (you might keep your hand close to your chest to help with pain)
3. do the xray as you are planning, Xrays might show fractures of scaphoid bone late, almost 2 weeks after the fracture
4. try to understand the causes of the fall last time and how you should avoing them in the future so you do not have damages in the future.
5. According to the xray results will be decided on further plan and treatment.
Hope this is helpful to you and answers to your question
Best regards,
Dr Antoneta
