Knee feels really tight..very hard to walk downstairs ..I m 60 and overweight ...this is what I thought was my problem so I started to lose weight 2 and half months ago...lost 28 lbs my knee feels better ..but still can t go downstairs and knee still feels tight....I have tried tyenol arthritis it helps sometimes...when I exerise using my glider my knee feels much better for about have a day ....I have had this problem for about 3 months now...and I m still on my diet ...
Age related wear and tear is usually the cause. Mild stretching exercise to the knee can be done everyday which is beneficial in the long term. Maintain your weight with adequate physical activity. Chondromalacia patella or patello-femoral pain syndrome is a painful condition that results when the cartilage under your kneecap is damaged and can cause increasing pain with stair climbing. Hamstring and quadriceps strengthening exercises are helpful. Chondro-protective agents like glucosamine can be taken everyday. Like bone supplements, these are supplements for cartilage.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
