Suggest Treatment For Tingling Sensation In The Legs In A Diabetic

I have tingling on the surface of my legs. It feels like something is crawling on them. Sometimes it feels like a small prick. I have Type 2 Diabetes for the past four years. I have felt like this for the past four days. I did have some swelling in my left ankle, which has dissipated. My age is 56 - weight 270 lbs.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since you have type 2 diabetes you should keep your blood glucose levels at control or it may trigger peripheral neuropathy. Obesity, venous insufficiency & lymph-edema often causes swelling in the ankle. You are suggested to get clinically examined & treated at the earliest. For tingling sensation you should get connected to a neurologist, get nerve conduction tests, nerve biopsy & imaging tests done. Get treated. In the meantime, you should take vitamin B6, B12, folic acid, mineral rich food or supplements.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
