Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a callous on my toe that is a donut shape around a spot of regular skin that gets infected. Up to now I go to a podiatrist to have the callous cut off once a month. 3 times it has been infected. Is there something else that could be done to get rid of the callous permanently?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Calluses are caused by excessive pressure over particular area on feet. Cutting of callus is not proper treatment for callus. Cutting may lead to infection and injury. Proper treatment of callus includes prevention of excessive pressure on the area where callus is formed. Wearing specially designed orthotic foot wear will help to heal the callus and hence its reduction. Sometimes, it is accompanied by pain. Relief of pressure and pain killers will help to reduce the pain. You need to consult your podiatrist for orthotic treatment.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
