Suggest Treatment For Tonsil Stones That Are Causing Pain While Swallowing

Hi doctor! On my tonsils in the back on the right side I have to balls on top that look like they are growing there. I can feel them when I swallow. Am I getting ill? Is it some thing worse or just an infection? I look forward to hearing from you! Dacia

Hi there

From your description, this seems to be tonsilloliths, small stones that form in the crypts of tonsils. These stones are usually harmless and not treated unless they cause bad breath or if they cause pain on swallowing. You can gargle vigorously daily with salt water to ensure no new stones form.

You will only need antibiotics if you have acute tonsillitis, which is inflamed tonsils, pain on swallowing with a fever.

Hope this helps.
