Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hi I have a 20 year old daughter who has swollen tonsils with puss on them, she finds it very hard to swallow or eat , we live 55km from a hospital on a dirt road and it is to wet and boggy an I was wandering what I could give her at home till I can get her to a hospital.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain swollen tonsils along with pus over them seems to be most commonly due to bacterial infection leading to formation of pus pockets as well as severe pain and swelling.. I would suggest you to as of now give him Ibuprofen to relieve pain.. He should do warm saline gargles .. Gargle with numbing mouthwash to relieve pain and ease in eating.. Do steam inhalations and suck throat lozenges.. It will give temporary relief.. You should take him to an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Throat swab culture can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly.. You can be advised to take a course of antibiotics like Augmentin or Azithromycin.. Continue taking anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, naproxen etc.. Remaining remedies should also be followed..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
