Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a tooth infection and I was prescribed flucloxacillin. The tooth infection has now come back as I didn t do the full treatment, so I am now taking what was left of the flucloxacillin. This is only two days worth. I want to continue the treatment for 5 days and I have amoxicillin tablets left that were prescribed for another infection by my GP. Can I continue the treatment with amoxicillin? Thank you Suada
Hello, Thanks for the query. Flucloxacillin is mainly used to treat betalactamadse resistant Gram positive bacterial infections. Where as Amoxillin has no action against such resistant bacteria. Therefore ideally it is better to take Flucloxacillin only for the recommended number of days. Taking flucloxacillin for 2 days then shifting to Amoxacillin is unlikely to benefit. Thanks.
