Suggest Treatment For Toothache And Lump On Jaw

Hi

About a month ago I got severe toothache and a lump appeared on my lower jaw. I went to the dentist ASAP and was prescribed antibiotics and given a follow up appointment. The antibiotics cleared the worst of it up but the follow up never happened (the surgery cancelled the initial appointment then Christmas got in the way). One week ago it flared up again so I saw a dentist and got another three day course of antibiotics. Had the tooth extracted today but the lump on my jawbone is still present. Will it go down on its own? Or do I need to book another appointment to get it seen to?

Thanks

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain painful tooth along with lump on the jawbone indicates that there is dental abscess formation due to infection extending from tooth to region below root apex leading to pus formation and lump..

In case if tooth is extracted and the lump still persist it means still pus in present and not drained and the socket is not curretted /cleaned properly..

In case if the lump is below the lower border of jaw it can be swollen lymph node due to infection and it will gradually be reduced in size but if it is on the jaw it is a Dental abscess..

I would suggest you to consult a dentist and get proper curettage of the extraction socket done followed by irritation with hydrogen peroxide, betadine and saline followed by antibiotics and painkillers..

Hope this information helps..
