Parkinson s disease is caused by decreased dopamine in the brain. Dopamine is an inhibitory neurotransmitter. Deficiency of it leads to increased muscle tone ie rigidity and involuntary movements like tremors. Hence for treatment Levo dopamine is given since dopamine cannot cross blood brain barrier but Levo dopamine can. It is converted to dopamine inside the brain. Parkinson s disease is not curable. However you can achieve partial control of symptoms with drugs. In some cases surgery is advised. Thanks.
