Doctor, I am having parkinson from year 2013 until now. My right hand and right leg got tremor. Now from year2016 onwards my left hand got tremor. Goverment hospital doctor is giving me Madopar tablet 250mg tds. I like to know whether doctor can treat me and cure my diease. My age is 65years old. Thank you doctor pls reply.
Parkinson s disease is caused by decreased dopamine in the brain. Dopamine is an inhibitory neurotransmitter. Deficiency of it leads to increased muscle tone ie rigidity and involuntary movements like tremors. Hence for treatment Levo dopamine is given since dopamine cannot cross blood brain barrier but Levo dopamine can. It is converted to dopamine inside the brain. Parkinson s disease is not curable. However you can achieve partial control of symptoms with drugs. In some cases surgery is advised. Thanks.
