Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I suffered from trichoptilosis for many years , and I cut them regularly to prevent splitting my hair again , although I cut them too short and keep them wet by using olive oil , but it seems there is no cure for that, and the end of my looks like white spot plus splitting , I ll appreciate too much if you tell me what is the remedy for my hair ?
Split ends or trichoptilosis is a genetic disease (autosomal dominant). Unfortunately there is no effective treatment available for this disease however minoxidil 2% lotion is found to be useful in increasing the growth of normal hair shafts.
Since this is a lifelong disease avoidance of trauma is the most effective method of managing this condition. So you should avoid exposing your hairs to sunlight, dyes, bleaches, and curling devices.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
