Suggest Treatment For Trigeminal Neuralgia

trigeminal neuralgia. My wife has been suffering with TN for over a year now. Tegretol may be having some effect but the frequency, duration and severity continue to increase. What are the surgical options? Are any alternative therapies, eg. chriopractic, acupuncture effective. Bob Hodgson YYYY@YYYY

Hello Bob,

I can understand your concern. When medicines seem to effect less, there are surgical or invasive options that can be considered for the case of trigeminal neuralgia.

You can go for injection of alcohol into the nerve directly which can relieve pain for 6 months to 1 year. Injection might need to be repeated after its effect reduces or ceases. In addition, microvascular surgery can be considered too which is a surgical option.

You can discuss these options with your neurosurgeon and can decide the treatment plan.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish your wife feels better soon.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
