Suggest Treatment For Twisted Intestines Causing Bowel Blockage In A Heart Patient

Hello. My name is paulette. I just came from Kaiser visiting my neighbor. It seems he has an upper bowel blockage due to twisted intestines. He has a bad heart and he is on home dialysis. His doctor told him he needs surgery to clear the blockage but his heart can t take it. If he has the surgery he will be unable to have further dialysis. So the doctor told him and his wife that either way, he is going to die. He can t eat or drink anything. Nothing will pass and he can t have a bowel movement. He is scared and his wife is livid. Isn t there something else that canbe done? Is there some hospital or center that specializes in this?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Consult a gastro surgeon and get evaluated. As a first line management, we will try conservatively by using supportive measures. If symptoms worsen, surgical correction is required.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
