Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband has been diagnosed with type II diabetes. Where should we begin in looking at everything we eat? I feel like I have to analyze everything. This worries me that even things that say they are ok to eat like fruit etc. still has sugar. Is there a better cookbook or guideline we should follow each day? I hate to restrict our daily meals to the same ole same ole. Thanks for your direction. LB in TN
There are numerous diet books available for diabetes. I would recommend going to the american diabetes association web site and get soem additinoal recipes and suggestions for diet. The main thrust in diet is not that sugar is bad it is the amount of sugar that is bad. Drinking juice and other high calorie drinks are bad in that they contain so many calories that you expend your entire calorie allotment just in drinks. The best advice i an give you is portion control. Use a small plate and don't go for seconds. Eat a good well balanced diet and watch your particular calories. Fried foods are not good as they are high calorie and contain way too much fat.
You can also get recipe books at the library or purchase at the store that will also give you good advice on recipes and meal planning
