Suggest Treatment For Ulcerative Colitis

I am a 59 year old male in pretty good health overall except for a battle with Ulcerative Colitis. I took Asacol for 20 years but last year my Insurance forced me to switch to Pentasa. At my pharmacy my cost ran $600 to $800 per month and I then did a 3 month supply on Express Script who is with my Insurance carrier and the cost is now $1737 for 3 months and hassle as well to order. Is there a cheaper way I can regulate my disease. I am over the annual income salary to use any coupon offers. I have a HSA and I deplete it every year on just my medication.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Consult a gastroenterologist and get evaluated.

You can shift to older drugs like oral steroids to prevent flaring up of disease. Steroids are comparatively cheaper than immunomodulators.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
