Hi My son has undescended testes. He is 10. 2 years ago he had a surgery at Hopkins. The lady dr. said only one testes needed to be done surgery. I don't still see much difference. Ater follow up she doesn't seem so concerned and says as they become bigger and heavier they will be more visible. The primary doctor is more concerned though and thinks more need to be done. I am confused! Should I pursue another suggery for both testes? Pls help. E
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
I don’t think that such simple procedure may fail so you should not accept another surgery. Testicles may be atrophic and small but still present in its normal position. If you have any doubts you can do the ultrasound to check if surgery was successful but in most cases it is and there is no reason for additional surgeries. I am sure that surgeon knows better than GP. Another surgery will just be another risky procedure for him and completely unnecessary if testicles are not undescended anymore.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein
