Suggest Treatment For Unusual Illusion

Almost every night I wake up at least once or twice and I see people in my room. I know I am awake because my surroundings are the same as when I feel asleep and when I stop seeing the illusion. Its always people staring at me or watching me. For example I saw a man last night standing in my door way when I made eye contact with him he ran at me and then disappeared when I closed my eyes really fast.

Hello,

You have been getting unusual delusions. It's not a common symptom. An imbalance of certain chemicals in your brain, called neurotransmitters, has been linked to the formation of delusional symptoms. Delusions occur in the following conditions:
1) Delusional disorder
2) Schizophrenia
3) Alcohol abuse
4) Stress
5) Substance abuse
6) Psychological factors like social isolation, distrust, suspicion and low self esteem

The treatment is as follows:
1) Psychotherapy by a psychiatrist or a clinical psychologist includes cognitive behavioral therapy, individual therapy and family focused therapy
2) Antipsychotic drugs like Chlorpromazine, Haloperidol, Quetiapine, Clozapine
Please do consult a psychiatrist as soon as possible

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
