Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son has been having upper respitory problems for over a year. Our doctor has run test after test and everything comes back negative. He is on his third round of antibiotics and is still coughing and having sinus issues. Allergy testing all came back with no allergies, a very expensive nose swab showed nothing and xrays, ct scan showed nothing and yet he is still sick.
Since your son is having sinusitis with respiratory tract infection for more than a year, I would advise you to stop antibiotics when the present course gets over and get a culture and sensitivity of nasal swab done, if not already done, to find out the organism causing the infection.
A long course of sensitive medication as per the report would help. Also, you must rule out presence of polyp which can also cause chronic sinusitis. If nothing works then you may consider surgery for chronic sinusitis. Regular steam inhalation also would help.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Anoop Kumar, General & Family Physician
