Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mother, 75 years old, was diagnosed with cancer of left ureter, PT2. The dr. said the location of the cancer is close to her bladder and some seeds may have fallen on bladder. What is her best option for treatment? Chemo or surgery? They said her bladder may have to be removed
Most of the ureteral cancers are treated mainly with surgery. Chemotherapy usually has a secondary role only- either in residual tumor left after surgery or in advanced cases for palliation, where surgery is not feasible.
A portion of bladder may need to be removed if there is bladder extension, to avoid recurrence.
The best treatment plan is decided after considering may factors- like the stage at diagnosis, biopsy report, and co-morbid diseases present. Your doctor will discuss in details.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam TK
