Suggest Treatment For Vaginal Yeast Infection In An Elderly Person
My mother is 88 years old, I think she has a yeast infection, she burns and itches. It s been over a week I ve been treating her with diaper rash cream it does get better but every time she urinates she burns and itches again. Can I treat her at home?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Burning and itching while urinating could be due to urinary tract infection. I suggest you to get a routine urine examination to look for evidence of infection. In case there is evidence of urine infection, you need to get an urine culture and drug sensitivity to identify the infection and institute appropriate antibiotic for the infection. Is there any vaginal discharge? Fungal infection is accompanied by white curdy discharge and symptoms of itching and burning. However, before treating for fungal infection, urinary tract infection needs to be ruled out. If urinary tract infection is present, appropriate antibiotics need to be started.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
