Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 65 year old woman until recently in excellent health, however this year in the summer time I experienced a very scary episode of vertigo which lasted for almost two weeks on and off until I started the beta histine medication which really helped. I did have intermittent feelings of loss of balance but was able to manage well as they did not persist. I did go through all the testing. Brain MRI and the dizzy test . I was diagnosed with Atypical Mennieres as apparently I do have tinnitus on both ears but no hearing loss. In November I had a bad cold and immediately after I started to have more difficulties with loss of balance. I started the betahistine again to the maximum dose of 16mg three times a day. I am still taking it as I worry that it could turn into vertigo but it does not help the loss of balance. I have always been a very active person. Walk daily over an hour if not two a day. Practice Yoga , dance etc. I am finding it very difficult as I am now limited. Walking is causing pain of my hips as it feels like I am going against the current. I was told by the ENT not to do Yoga as the positions can exacerbate the condition. I do practice yoga with modifications as it helps calm the anxiety that I now experience about my condition. I started acupuncture which has not made much difference. The acupuncturist has felt that there are sinus issues which compound the problem but does not want to go ahead until I stop the beta histine as it is unclear what is causing what. She suggest that I see an osteopath to assess if there are any issues with a nerve in the neck. I think I will also ask for a referral to a neurologist. What is your recommendation.

Suggest Treatment For Vertigo And Anxiety
no need to worry.. first rule out anemia, hypertension, hypothyroidism and allergy to any perticular substance.. first correct the above mentioned condition by your consultant. till than current treatment betahistine 8 mg thrice a day is continue, add furosamide 40 mg tablet alternate day with coconut water. after prolonged treatment, still vertigo persist, shunt operation can be done by ENT experts. thank you......
